Red Squirrels had been on our bucket list for a long time, we’d hoped to get some shots when we visited Scotland, but alas, all we saw was a fluffy red tail disappearing into the undergrowth at the side of the road. With this in mind we were a bit dubious of the claims made by the owners of the self catering accommodation we were going to stay in in Cumbria and their promise of Red Squirrels in the garden. Well if anything they were underselling it! There were red squirrels in the garden almost constantly visiting the feeders stocked with peanuts and hazelnuts and we had some great opportunities to photograph them in the snow that fell on our first night.

The photo of the bridge shows squirrel footprints on either side apparently exhibiting lane discipline crossing over on the right and back on the left. I was pleased I took this when I did as an hour later the snow had melted.
